Flora Handy,age 37 years. Born March 9th,1972 to Harry Handy and Marion Handy. Born and raised in Delmar,MD. Flora started singing at the tender age of 2 in the Children's Chior at Union United Methodist Church in Delmar, Md.. At the age of 11 she was allowed to sing in the Adult Chior, The Union Gospel Group under the direction of her cousin, Rosemary Hudson.Flora has travelled extensively with the choir, up and down the East Coast.Upon entering high school, Flora joined the band. Flora fell in love with playing wind instuments as well as the violin up until the 9th grade when she was asked to try out for the school chorus (Wicomico Sr. High School).Flora participated in several All Shore and All State compitions,winning several choral awards.Flora was allowed to sing the National Anthem at many sporting events at school and in the surruonding areas.Flora participated inschool musicals, one most memorable was the Sound of Music were she played The Mother Abbus. Her high school chorus teacher (Phyllis Oldham)pushed Flora's voice to it's capacity,and it was then everyone discovered Flora's true vocal range.Flora continued to sing Gospel music. Flora continues to sing gospel music several years after high school. Flora has given several concerts in and around the Delmarva Peninsula as well as around the world.Flora continues to sing anywhere and everywhere. Never straying from her love of gospel music she has persevered through all that life has handed her good and bad with a strong belief and faith in God knowing that one day her prayer to share her gift of song with the world would finally come true.
