Producers and musicians characterize Fonna's voice as the instrument of a truly gifted artist. Born in Omaha, Nebraska to a family steeped in the traditions of gospel music and jazz, Fonna learned at a very early age that music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent. Her grandfather, an accomplished jazz singer, is Fonna's main musical influence. As a member of her church choir Fonna enjoys the freedom of expression that comes with bringing the house down on Sunday mornings with soulful renditions of her favorite gospel songs. Fonna is currently recording an album with Mikey Bassie - songwriter/producer - who has written songs for Britney Spears, Joey McIntyre, Andru Donalds, Bob Andy and others. He has also worked with Gloria Estefan and collaborates frequently with Riddim' Twins Sly and Robbie. The first single from the album is Peekaboo and it is slated for commercial release in Spring, 2006. Mikey Bassies introduction to Fonna was a heart wrenching rendition of a popular ballad via phone when Fonna was at the tender age of eight. For someone so young her vocals are amazing. She is going to shoot all the way to the top of the charts in very short order said Mikey Bassie. Fonna's favorite artists are Ciara and Alicia Keyes. Her favorite music genre is Hip Hop although her vocals are more geared towards pop and jazz.
