1968 Odissea Nel Rock
Dearest Francesco, LOVE listening to your album. Your guitar playing is MAGNIFICENT!!! What a treat to also hear you sing. We hope to see you again soon! Xoxo Maud & Garth Hudson (The Band) "Francesco Garolfi is among the best guitar players I have worked with" Peter Walsh (producer: Peter Gabriel, Scott Walker, Simple Minds, Miguel Bosé, Cristina Donà, The Church) Guitarist and vocalist, composer, arranger, and producer, still young and so experienced, Francesco Garolfi is one of the most interesting and sophisticated up and coming new talents. With a degree summa cum laude in Modern Literature - a doctoral dissertation about Music - he is an explorer of sonic landscapes with no borders. After years of classical studies, his fingerpicking technique today has progressed so far that Francesco applies it to electric, acoustic, slide, lap steel guitar and mandolin. In 2006, after a long journey in the deepest soul of the blues, he releases his debut CD, The Blues I Feel. Recorded and mixed in two days, this album reveals also a great vocalist and it is still on rotation in the USA and Europe, beside being very positively reviewed abroad (Blues Revue, Blues Wax, Blues Matters!) and in Italy (Folk Bulletin, Jam, Chitarre, Il Blues). In 2006 he also gains the first prize at the International Festival \'Out of the Blue\'s\' in St. Moritz, Switzerland. It is in 2007 that the prominent Italian singer and songwriter Cristina Donà (winner of many awards, including Targa Tenco, and 2007 Best Album Award from Musica&Dischi, with her La Quinta Stagione) invites him to record her first acoustic effort, Piccola Faccia (EMI). When the album is released to critical and commercial acclaim in early 2008, Donà asks Garolfi to join her for all the promotional activities (radio, TV, showcases) and for the winter 2009 upcoming acoustic tour. In 2007 he also started a collaboration with renowned writer and journalist Davide Sapienza, with whom he set up two literary shows merging readings and music (La stagione di Ognidove, Il Signor Loci, Presumo?), exploring classic musical giants such as Lindsey Buckingham, Bruce Cockburn, Lucio Battisti, The Beatles, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, The Doors. By 2008 he is ready to face is most ambitious project yet 1968: Odissea nel Rock (Faier Entertainment, www.1968odisseanelrock.com - 1968: A Rock Odissey) inspired by a fictionary essay by Davide Sapienza. The new versions of classic standards by The Band, Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, and his self penned instrumental Ishmael, are proofs that rock classics can be still open to interpretation for futuristic visions of musical landscapes. The release of the album will be accompanied by a "limited edition" tour and a promotional showcase tour in the FNAC chains, exclusive distributor of the boxed set CD. He played two consecutive tours in the USA; has appeared in major tv and radio programmes in Italy (RAI TV) and abroad (CBS, KFFA \'King Bisquit Time\'); has played various International Festivals such as Acoustic Guitar 9th International Meeting and Folkest, has supported world stars like Steve Howe formerly with Yes, played with Maxophone, progressive rock band whose musician boast collaborations with major acts like Mina, Celentano, Dalla, Bennato, Nannini, Ron, Milva. He has also arranged, recorded, played and sung in two albums with harmonica player Fabrizio Poggi (The Breath of Soul , 2006 e Mercy, 2008) and played, among others, with artists like Maud e Garth Hudson (The Band, with whom he played in Woodstock, NY), Eric Bibb, Guy Davis, Otis Taylor, Bob Brozman, Ponty Bone (The Clash, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Joe Ely), Massimo Bubola, Rob Paparozzi (The Original Blues Brothers Band, Blood Sweat and Tears), Ronnie Jones.
