The sophomore album from Fugly, 'Rational Escapist' is a departure from the synth poppy sound of it's predecessor, 'Stagger Step Fall' into a much darker, experimental, angrier sound. 'I wanted the album to have a sense of urgency, desperation, and raw emotion', remarks Jarod Gerace, the mastermind behind the project. 'I was in the process of moving out of my home, moving in with my girlfriend and trying to settle down. I wasn't even sure if I could continue with Fugly, so I figured I would go out with both guns blazing on this album.' The end result is a CD that surpasses the previous album on all levels. The distorted, effected vocals on the first single, 'Human Torture Show' are very reminiscent of old school skinny puppy and velvet acid christ. The radio samples, theremin and chopped synths on 'confessor' has a very experimental feel to it. All in all, old school industrial fans will be pleased, while newer industrial fans may be left in shock.
