Gary Gillispie is a very versatile pianist and tireless improvisor of classical and popular music. He has performed and taught piano, theory and improvisation in Houston for almost 40 years. As former director of the Houston Conservatory of Music, where he began teaching in 1968, Gary accompanied numerous solo and chamber music groups in benefit and fundraising recitals. He has played for the Houston Ballet, American Music/Drama Academy, Houston Music Teachers Association, Opera in the Heights, the Italian Cultural Center, American Ballet and the Houston Dance Center. He has played with several jazz greats such as Arnette Cobb, Kirk Franklin, Steve Allen, Frankie Laine and many others. Gary attended the University of Houston, University of St. Thomas, St. Vincent's Academy and Philadelphia Music Academy. He has performed with the Houston Symphony, Galveston Symphony and Symphony North of Houston. For four years he was organist at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston. Presently, Gary gives private lessons, teaches at Writers in the Round, and teaches at Sherman Clay Pianos-- all in Houston. He also serves as music director for Company OnStage, where 'Snoopy!!!' is being performed June 27 through August 2, 2008.
