Genius Deficit is the trio of Jason Condello (Vocals / Guitar), Brian DeGarceau (Bass) and Steve Quinn (Drums). Their 'Bone Chunk' 2005 debut album, recorded in Los Angeles's Studio 13, is not so much indie-rock as kick-ass-rock. Genius Deficit fuses the riff-heavy stadium rock of the '70s with the grit and anger of '90s post-punk alternative, without ever neglecting hooks and choruses. Jason Condello has a powerful almost angry voice that always manages to elicit sensational emotions and excitement in fans, and his convincingly throaty style can recall, though it does not imitate, vintage alternative greats like Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland. An awesome blues / rock sound emanates from Jason's guitar solos and chord progressions. DeGarceau's creative bass style demonstrates true melodical talent and works perfectly in maintaining the fullness sometimes lost in three piece bands. Drumming sensation Steve Quinn brings it all together with an amazing inventiveness that is almost reminiscent of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham. Genius Deficit succeeds at twisting powerful indie-rock into some interesting new directions while maintaining a lot of grit and punk.
