There You Were
Gervis Guidry and John Haley burst onto the Music Scene in the early 80's. They are both natives of Lake Charles (southwest Louisiana). Their repetoire consist of Easy Listening, Rhythm and Blues, Standards, Jazz and Top 40 Tunes. Gervis and John's philosophy is music for all occasions. They can enhance the atmosphere during Happy Hours, brunch and buffet time (restaurants), formals/socials and on weekend nights they can pack the dance floor with their R&B and Top 40 sounds. Gervis Guidry studied music at Washington High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana under the world reknown Conrad Hutchingson, III, son of the former Grambling University Band Director. Gervis has been playing professionally since he was a junior in high school. He studied music at McNeese State University and earned his B.A. degree in Liberal Studies. He plays saxophone (alto and soprano), flute, keyboards and sings. He played with such greats as Rockin' Sidney, Katie Webster, Moody Scott, Magic and Big Ike. Gervis' recording credits include It Was September (Superior Elevation produced by Grammy winner Rockin' Sidney) and "I'm Loving You (Magic). I'm Loving You was a Top Pick single of the week by Billboard magazine in 1982. Gervis produced, arranged and performed keyboards on this recording. 'SKYLINE', 1987 was Gervis' first LP. He arranged, performed and produced all eight songs on this LP. John Haley hails from a Gospel Background. He grew up singing in the church (Mount Calvary Baptist Church). He has been singing since the age of five and is still active in the Mount Calvery Male Chorus. John graduated from W. O. Boston High School and attended McNeese State University. He also served two years in the U. S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. He provides outstanding vocals to Gervis' keyboard arrangements. There is something about Mr. Haley's voice that fulfills those who hear him sing. Whether it is Gospel or Soul his voice and singing reaches the soul. In the late 90's John and Gervis ventured into the Gospel Scene and produced two Gospel recordings, Everybody Oughta Praise His Name, a cassette single and "The Last Mile of the Way" a 10-song CD/cassette. Gospel fans throughout the south were moved by their music. However, in the past few years patrons have called upon the Duo to bring their Soul Sounds back to the Entertainment Scene. They have performed at some of the Top Rated Entertainment Spots from New Orleans, Louisiana to Houston, Texas: Praline Connection (New Orleans), Players Casino (Lake Charles), Isle of Capri Casino (Westlake, Louisiana), Delta Downs Race Track (Vinton, Louisiana), Harrah's Casino (Lake Charles, Louisiana) and the Southwest Louisiana Convention and Vistor's Bureau Services. Currently the duo is in the studio working on their next release. This CD will be a mixture of Easy Listening sounds with a taste of R&B and Jazz.
