It's Not About Me
At a young age Mike Gould was born in Jamestown, New York. He grew up, however, in Lynchburg, Virginia where he attended a private Christian school, then Liberty University (a Christian University), and much later went back and earned his Masters Degree from Liberty's seminary. Mike grew up in a home with Christian parents and was dragged, I mean taken, to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, most of which he skipped out on with friends and found much boyhood mischief to create. Needless to say, Mike had many opportunities to hear the Good News about God's unconditional love, however it never really mattered to him until his young adult years. Mike began to play music in pubs and bars and he began to adopt that "it's all about a good time" lifestyle. He became a drug user which of course started with the small stuff and went from there. Mike left Lynchburg in pursuit of some musical training at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. Mike's partying continued there until God opened his eyes to the reality that Mike had lost his way in life. In fact, when Mike shares the details of his testimony of how his partying led him to the center of a Satanic cult, many are encouraged by the faithfulness of God. Mike was being threatened and all indications were that Mike had put himself in an environment where lawlessness ruled and his life was in great danger. But Mike called on the name of the Lord and God answered by setting him free. Mike walked away from his pursuers that night and sought the spiritual advice of Christian friends and God took his life in a new direction. Mike believes God said to him "I'm going to use you again in music." Mike's journey since has been one of pursuing a friendship with God and of pursuing his musical expression. Mike songs are written from the heart with sincere and straight to the point lyrics.
