Groove Project 2008
The Groove Project are 80 very talented people between the ages of 10 and 18, who live in and around Wotton-under-Edge in rural Gloucestershire, England. Under the guidance of jazz musician, composer and alternative music educator Katie Elliott they write, arrange and perform their own songs, 16 of which appear on this, their second CD. Material includes reggae, ska, funk, ballads, indie and pop - all delivered in a unique style that can only come from having this many people who all want to write, sing and play their wild range of instruments (trumpets, violins, flutes, trombones, cellos, saxophones, percussion, double bass and harmonica, as well as the usual guitars, basses and drums). It might sound like a recipe for disaster, but the results speak for themselves - fun, quirky, consistently professional-sounding, and with moments of pure magic. This CD is the result of two years work by the people involved, and it's release marks the end of the project in it's current form. Several of it's members will undoubtedly go on to serious careers in the music business, and many more will cite the Groove Project as a life-changing experience. This is history in the making.
