Product Notes

HANK STONE-IN A TEXAS HONKY TONK The title of this CD is aptly named. As you listen to HANK STONE, sounding a bit like RAY PRICE, DARRELL McCALL, JOHNNY BUSH with a touch of CURTIS POTTER thrown in, you get the urge to take a couple of swigs from a long neck, then hit the hardwood floor with your favorite guy or gal. Lots of honky tonk and two step in this collection. Stone's honky tonk is accompanied by twin fiddles, steel guitar, electric lead and honky tonk piano. Cover includes the RAY PRICE hit TOUCH MY HEART from 1966, UNLOVED & UNWANTED, KITTY WELLS 1962 & WHAT'S COME OVER MY BABY, a DOTTIE WEST classic. Original cuts are YOUR JEALOUSY / Hank Stone - ALONE IN SAN ANTONE / Richard Hill - YOUR SIDE OF TOWN / Slim Roberts - HOUSE SO FULL OF EVERYTHING BUT YOU / Ron Knuth, Larry Patton, Johnny Bush-AN EYE FOR AN EYE / Johnny Bush ( Guest vocalist) From Doc Holiday and the Yellow Rose in Corpus Christi to Tootsies, The Bluebird Café and The Legend's Bar in Nashville. From the legendary Floore Country Store in Helotes, The Farmer's Daughter and Leon Springs Dance Hall in San Antonio, The Cabaret in Bandera, Big Balls of Cow Town, The Stagecoach Ballroom and the stockyards in Ft. Worth, Hank and his Texas Honky Tonk Swing Band play the hard driving Texas dance music that crowds always come back to hear. At the 13th annual San Antonio Current Magazine Music Awards, on March 8, 2000, Hank Stone and the Texas Honky Tonk Swing Band were the big winners; taking San Antonio Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year for "Alone in San Antone", Single of the Year for "Alone in San Antone", Best Performing Band, BAND OF THE YEAR, and the top honor of ARTIST OF THE YEAR. Hank has had several chart records in Texas and throughout the south. His CD titled "In a Texas Honky Tonk" was released nationwide in the summer of 2000 and received major airplay from radio stations such as KKYX, San Antonio to WJJC Atlanta, Georgia. From KVLR Seattle, WA to WFDU Teaneck, NJ, WBGU Bowling Green, OH, KTFW Ft. Worth and KNON Dallas. It also received substantial airplay in Europe, Australia and the UK, topping the chart at #1 in COUNTRY MUSIC PEOPLE magazine in August 2001. JOHNNY BUSH graciously accepted an invitation to sing a duet with Hank on "An Eye For an Eye", the 12th cut on his CD, a tune Johnny wrote for Ray Price and has since become a contemporary classic. Besides having worked with Johnny Bush on numerous occasions, Hank has worked with such stars as John Anderson, Darrell McCall, Frenchie Burke and Johnny Paycheck and has been the opening act for RAY PRICE on numerous occasions. Noted San Antonio Express News columnist and music critic, Wiley Alexander called Hank's CD "TOTALLY AWESOME" and said it was one of the finest pieces of pure country music he had heard in years. There are not many entertainers left today who are totally devoted to the preservation of Texas Honky Tonk music and western swing. Nothing proves the point better than hearing Hank Stone and his Texas Honky Tonk Swing Band in their natural habitat performing live country music for Texans who love to dance.
