As / Is
Fusing aggressive rock to hook-laden melodies, Heads Up Display are a rock trio who combine punchy song dynamics and dark pop sensibility into a sound equal parts unique and familiar. With a multitude of genres to spring from such as Classic/Alternative/Slacker Rock with Brit Pop, Post Rock and Early Emo as well as Bebop and Big Band, they also draw on influences including Nick Cave, Weezer, Cake, Blur, Built to Spill. This indie rock power trio juxtaposes soft, soaring melody with driving brute force, resulting in an energetic live show that is as much felt as heard. Formed in 2002 singer/guitarist/trumpeter Joshua Dillard and bassist Steve Pellegrino at University with a flyer looking to form an "electronic project," the sound quickly gelled into a more raw immediate form. After adding a drummer, Heads Up Display began playing throughout the Tri-State area. In 2006, Heads Up Display began promoting and touring behind their debut EP, Stethescope, which Deli Magazine descibed as having "moody, looming, and sometimes explosive indie-rock melodies." With the addition of permanent drummer/backing vocalist Kevin Colden, the band continues to craft their brand of rock'n'roll, showcased on their recent release AS/IS.
