What started as a routine experiment has turned into a revolutionary project, henceforth known as The Hickory Project. The band features hard-driving traditional and original bluegrass with the expert licks of National Mandolin Champion Anthony Hannigan, four-time Florida Fiddle Champion Sue Cunningham, guitarist/vocalist Danny Shipe, banjoist David Cavage and bassist Steve Belcher providing the foundation for an outstanding performance. The Hickory Project has produced five CDs and one DVD under their own label, Hickory Productions, LLC. Their most recent CD, Big Darby, is a multi-media production which includes 11 new tunes penned by the band's members along with two cover tunes. It also includes a music video as well as video clips of the band members in the studio. The group has wowed audiences literally around the globe. In the last two years, their international appearances have included two tours of Australia and two tours of Ireland, in addition to performances throughout Europe. In the US, they've performed for large audiences from Maine to Colorado. And, as if their recording and grueling touring schedule weren't enough, the group has successfully produced and organized three acoustic music festivals over the last three years in their hometown of Wellsboro, PA 'to provide a forum for the many excellent musicians' they have met in their travels. They were recently honored by being selected to showcase at the 2004 IBMA World Of Bluegrass, for thousands of professionals in the music industry. Clearly, Hickory Project is Movin' On Up! The Hickory Project has captured that youthful/soul-felt hunger to please their audiences nationwide. Whether it is straight-forward traditional or a flare for the new realm in acoustic music, the Hickory Project is gaining ground linking old and new in acoustic music.
