Since 1977, Hutchi Boy-E started his musical history here in the islands playing in the band Johnny's Rock Society, Nova, and then Scorpio 79 while in the military. He made a name for himself with his style of bass playing. Hutchi Boy-E got out of the military in 1981 and became 'almost Hawaiian', a kama'aina, not quite Hawaiian, but truly a Hawaiian at heart. The group Studi-Yo was thereafter formed with his friend, Marvin Boyd on guitar, singers Rhonda Rene' (his sister) and Karla Young, Yvone McCoy, Kevin Richardson on sax, Greg Wills on trumpet, and Wayne Clark on the keys. Together they rocked the island with a monstrous sound that always kept the people on their feet yelling 'YO Studi-Yo, YO Studi-Yo now scream!' Together Studi-Yo and the station KISA, KISS AM (who then employed Rory Wild and Auntie Lokea), run by Rick Manayan, put on Hawaii's first block party in front of the radio station in Kalihi. The turnout was so great, the next one had to be done at Kapiolani Park because over 10,000 screaming fans turned up. Hutchi Boy-E recently discovered some never-released songs from Studio-Yo that may be released in the future. The songs Lolo Popolo, and Rock Me Baby, will be included in the upcoming 'Almost Hawaiian' CD.
