The music and narration on 'First Storybook' paint a landscape of characters and moods including an inventor who makes revolutionary paper airplanes, bicycle messengers who hunt living silence, and a singer who doesn't believe in the sky. The twelve-piece Indigo Invention Group will delight you with it's eclectic compositions by saxophonist/composer, Hans Spencer Indigo. Their repertoire shifts from ebullient funk grooves to serene and often haunting melodies all the while depicting a cast of whimsical characters. These stories provide the thread that unifies the Group's blend of big band jazz, minimalism and rock 'n' roll attitude. The Indigo Invention Group has played at Boston area venues including the New England Conservatory, the Blacksmith House, Cafe Chelsea, the Lizard Lounge, and the Improv Boston Theater. Hans Spencer Indigo has received numerous commissions to write for youth symphonies, classical chamber groups and has also written for the BMI Jazz Composers Orchestra in New York. He continued to developed as a jazz composer while studying at the New England Conservatory under Bob Brookmeyer, while his storytelling background includes performances at the Middle East, Actors Workshop Theater and elsewhere. Committed to fostering the musical imaginations of children, he teaches music in the Cambridge Public Schools.
