Ruby, Jack : Least Honorable
'Right away it is easy to tell that Jack Ruby loves it's late seventies rock. Tunes filled with punk stylings and ska rhythm easily take the mind to artists like Elvis Costello and The Clash. And to be quite frank, if your tunes conjure up those artists you are on a good musical path. This trio definitely has something special going on with their hooky riffs, bouncy beats and all around good feel. The disc is full of energy and smart songwriting. For a three piece these guys bring a lot of punch that is modern at the same time honors it's musical past. 'The opening track "Anymore" is great. The intro has a My Morning Jacket vibe until it trails into full on rock assault that is poppy, yet dark and nicely rolls into the next track "Could It Be". "Bee Sting" sounds like the radio hit from the disc, with a lot more dramatics then most of the other songs. The disc slows down in tempo to some degree throughout the middle tunes, and the consistent up stroke guitar playing can get repetitive, but the songwriting never diminishes. A must have for anyone that loves The Clash or the early Police records.' -Nelson Heise, Rift Magazine. '... tight, melodic post-punk with echoes of early Elvis Costello and the Police.' -Ross Raihala, St. Paul Pioneer Press.
