Famous Last Words
'Famous Last Words' is the debut solo album from former Under New Ownership (U-NO) co-founder/acoustic guitarist/vocalist Jason Rak. Written over a period of a year from 2000-2001 and recorded in the summer of 2001, this album finds Jason in his original element: stripped down and bare! Combining rock/pop/folk elements, his penchant for storytelling is not lost in this 8 tune debut. With melodies reminiscent of Dave Matthews, Hootie & The Blowfish, Ani DiFranco, and Pat McGee to mention a few; catchy hooks and swinging choruses abound. Consisting of 8 originals, the album screams with intensity. From the opening acoustic roots-rock riff of 'Like Me' to the edgy pop-rock chorus of 'Jay's Song', the album is filled with relationships gone bad, life experiences, yearning, and hope. Finally recorded is the live favorite 'Back To Me'. While Jason played all guitar and percussion on the album, he realized a little something was missing. So he recruited fellow U-NO co-founder Gregg Jordan to hit the keys. 'When I was in pre-production for the album, I knew I wanted to keep it an acoustic solo effort. But after hearing Gregg play around with the songs, and touring with him this summer, I realized it was inevitable that he would add so much to the process and, as it turns out, he did!' Whether you are driving in the car down that summer road, or simply in need of something to relax to with that glass of Chardonnay at home, 'Famous Last Words' will not dissapoint!
