Last Failed Invasion
'The Last Failed Invasion' is the fifth album independently released by Jay Walters. Exploration of the relationship, whether it be friend, family or lover has always confused and intrigued the poor human. On this record, Jay moves in for a closer inspection. The standout track here is undoubtedly the uptempo rocker "Still Got Each Other". Metaphor abounds in what is a surprising combination of a driving arena rock arrangement with flower-scented lyrics about a hard-tested romance built by bruises. Tenderness is also on display with the banjo-tinged "I Want To Be With You". Just when you have this album pegged, a song like "The Worst Guy in the World" is belched forth. It is a ragged acoustic sing-along that describes the author in an unflattering light - sure to make you cringe and laugh. Closing the album is the redemption seeking "Fish and Bread" featuring a heavenly chorus of backing vocals and stellar vocal work by Jay. "The Last Failed Invasion" is an unusual amalgamation of emotion, wit and musicality. There are plenty of hooks to sing along with and more than enough memorable moments to keep this album in your rotation for a long time.
