This album collection is largely improvised. Jess is a poet first, and her lyrics are a engaging with depth and vivid imagery. The title cut 7,000 wars and some others have electronic instrumentation backing a gorgeous, soulful voice. Master drummer Akeem Ayanniyi adds his Djembe, Talking Drum, and Ashiko from a long line of master drummers in Nigeria on 'Blind Man's Bluff' and 'Beautiful.' He speaks the intro in Yoruba on 'Beautiful', and Jesse takes the traditional rhythms and catapults them into a new dimension, improvising a spoken word piece into a a full tilt call to the ancestors. Lyrics taken from dreams, desert living and poetry published by Jess give this album some surprising turns.
