Just Got in from the Country
I was born in Central Illinois where water towers and radio antennae loom over the soybean fields like structures left over from earlier civilizations. Came to Chicago 25 years ago with a punk rock band that immediately blew up when we all fell in love with the same girl. She was a blessing to the music world. Spent the next quarter century kicking around the Labyrinth, looking for threads, delivering meals to homebound elderly, writing lots of songs, writing weird stories, falling in love, falling incamera, falling. . . picking myself up, picking guitar, picking the wrong lottery numbers, horses and people. . . Always genuflecting at the altars of Chess, Sun & Apple Records, but surrendering my musical heart of hearts to the twin cult of Robert Johnson & Hank Williams. Trying my durnedest to document the indigenous music of Central Illinois as seen through the ears of someone not quite citified, but no longer country-fried, either. Hello, World!
