THE JOHN MALINO BAND Ask John Malino who his musical heroes are, and he will say Ella Fitzgerald and Jimi Hendrix. John Malino, a soulful singer and guitarist, leads the band performing jazz favorites. Press reviews have compared Malino to John Pizzarelli, Harry Connick, Jr. and the young Frank Sinatra. Malino, also a songwriter, had David Sanborn perform saxophone on one of his original songs. The John Malino Band has performed at venues including Birdland, Fez, Windows on the World, Life, Metronome, Decade, Sardi's, Maxim's, Le Cirque, Lola, Tatou, Garage, Detour, and The Turning Point. The band plays festivals and clubs all over the country, including a concert at The Santa Monica Pier Concert Series and The Kennedy Center. The John Malino features veteran jazz drummer Walter Perkins, originally from Chicago. He has played with several musicians including Ray Bryant, Charles Mingus, Jimmy Witherspoon, Monty Alexander, and Carmen McCrae. Perkins has performed at the Blue Note, Birdland, Sweet Basil and many other jazz venues in Chicago and NYC.
