Product Notes

Johannes Berauer founded his "Tiny Orchestra" during his time as a student in Boston (2005). Since then the octet has functioned as a mouthpiece for Berauer's Jazz compositions with which he realises his vision of contemporary Jazz. The music of Johannes Berauer's Tiny Orchestra unites the intensity of composed music with the spontaneity of Jazz improvisation. It is expressive, full of energy and always gives room for outstanding soloists. However, the compositional intent is always apparent in form, counterpoint and thematic development. The eight musicians - Ben Roseth (alto sax, soprano sax, flute), Jon Bean (tenor sax), Dan Rosenthal (trumpet), Adam Dotson (euphonium), Cory Pesaturo (accordion), Dov Manski (piano), Haggai Cohen-Milo (bass) and Sean Hutchinson (drums) - come from the USA and Israel and, apart from great musicality and technical perfection, also bring a very personal note to the ensemble. The impressive level of experience of the still young musicians is constantly felt. Some members of the band have collected concert experience for example at Montreux, North Sea Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, Birdland and Smalls in New York. Johannes Berauer feels himself equally committed both to contemporary classical music and Jazz and distinguishes himself in both areas through innovation and technical aplomb. He studied under Gunter Walek and Christoph Cech at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and at the New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Bob Brookmeyer and Lee Hyla were among his teachers. Bob Brookmeyer said about his music: \'Johannes manages to connect 21st Century innovation with Jazz music to great success. I see a long and productive musical life for him -- very, very gifted.\' Johannes Berauer - Bio Johannes Berauer (*1979) recently completed with distinction his studies in composition with Bob Brookmeyer and Lee Hyla at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He had previously studied at Berklee College and at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. His studies in the USA were made possible when he received the Fulbright Scholarship. He is equally dedicated to both classic-contemporary and Jazz composition. In 2000 Berauer won the international Gustav Mahler Composition Prize with his violin concerto which was premiered by Benjamin Schmid. His other awards include the "Talentförderungsprämie des Landes Oberösterreich" and the "Herb Pomeroy Award." In 2006/07 he won the NEC Chamber Orchestra and Piano Trio Compositions competitions and received an honourable mention at the international competition "Die musikalische Welt des Wassers" in Gmünd/Austria. Among his works can be found a cello concerto, a commission of the Austrian virtuoso Friedrich Kleinhapl, as well as a large amount of chamber music, music for string and chamber orchestra, Choir, Big Band and various smaller Jazz formations. His music has been and continues to be performed in the USA, Europe and Australia. In Austria he has been represented at festivals such as the "Styriarte" and the Gmundener Festwochen" Berauer is currently working with the singer Philipp Sageder on the music for the Linz Klangwolke 2008. Furthermore, chamber music is planned for musicians of the Vienna Philharmonica, the hr-Symphony Orchestra as well as for the Israeli duo Brill/Aner.
