South to Louisiana
JONNO is a South Louisiana musician who has explored the roots music of the region for over twenty years, playing Cajun, Blues, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, and Rock'n'Roll. Currently, Jonno is a member of the Cajun/Creole band, Charivari (charivaricajunband.com). This group (Rounder Records, rounder.com) arranges traditional tunes and new compositions with a powerful rhythm section. Jonno also does recording sessions, live gigs, songwriting and teaching. His main instruments are fiddle (violin), cajun accordion, guitar and voice. Over the years, Jonno has formed his own groups in addition to producing CDs and collaborating on projects associated with South Louisiana music and dance (see 'detailed resume'). His recently released solo CD (which features a full studio band) is a reflection of over twenty years on the South Louisiana music scene. Titled SOUTH TO LOUISIANA, it features compositions by Clifton Chenier, Lawrence Walker, Hank Williams, and Jonno Frishberg, among others. Guests on the recording include Michael Doucet, Steve Riley, Sonny Landreth, Dwayne Doopsie, and Marvin Williams- all of whom Jonno has had the pleasure of performing and or recording with during his career. A New Orleans resident for nine years, Jonno has regular gigs at prominent venues in the City (see 'gigs') His traditional band with Bo Ledet is highly regarded as the hot band on the Cajun and Zydeco dance scene there, with twin fiddles, guitar, accordion, upright bass and drums. Jonno Frishberg is versatile and creative enough to survive and prosper as a musician in a town known for music. He combines different elements of the music he loves to entertain a wide variety of audiences, and has played all over the world in concert halls, theaters, nightclubs, festivals, and at dances. He loves what he does and it shows.
