Just Let Go
Erin Jung (pronounced 'young') was 17 years old when she recorded the vocal tracks on this CD in 2002. Her voice captures the innocence of her youth and contrasts it with a rich maturity, and a natural sense of phrasing. Prepare yourself to fall in love with her voice. Jung and the Restless is a band that has evolved over the past 2-3 years. Michael Fontenot had been performing his own compositions in the Texas Hill Country with his son Andrew -- at that time a 13-year-old bass guitar player with a remarkable sense of music and timing. Feeling the urge to play increasingly complex music, they asked Rob Grote to join them on drums. Rob was a high school junior and was playing drums for practically every band in the area. He, like Andrew was a quick learner -- able to grasp virtually any musical style and play with remarkable taste and control. In December of 2001, Michael heard the high school jazz band perform a rendition of 'Santa Baby' arranged by Marvin Housley. He was amazed by the talented vocalist, Erin Jung. Michael had written several songs for female voice (Alone With You, The Center of Who I Am, Too Lost In Love) and Erin was asked to join the group. The response was sensational. The group quickly moved to organize around Erin's voice and Michael's compositions. At this point in time, Michael painfully admits that his age was older than the cumulative age of the rest of the band! At the same time, the band was looking for a keyboardist to round out the sound. The solution (for both issues) was another junior at Fredericksburg High School named Daniel Tiemann. The group performed together for several months. They frequently talked about what to name the group; Michael was leaning towards 'The Dave Matthews Band' but he later learned that the name was already taken. They finally hit upon 'Jung and the Restless' and began work on this CD. The music was recorded at Cajun Sound Studieaux, Fredericksburg's most technologically sophisticated closet. The concept behind the recording was to give this CD the feel of the band, with minimal augmentation (richer harmonies, augmented lead guitar). The performance structure on this CD closely resembles live performance. The above-mentioned band members perform all the parts with a couple of exceptions. 'Living From The Heart' has a conga part which was performed by Jason Jung (no relation -- this is Fredericksburg!) Michael played the bass part on this song. Paul Grote (Rob's older brother -- currently studying guitar at UNT) plays lead guitar on the two blues songs. Paul frequently sits in with the group when he is in town. Late in 2002, Andrew decided to move out of the group. Kent Weinheimer (yet another talented senior at Fredericksburg High School) joined the group and plays bass on the final track. We hope you enjoy this combination of youthful talent and mature composition. All of the songs or written by Michael Fontenot except for 'When You Fall' which was written by Erin Jung. Michael, Erin, Rob, and Andrew also performed on Michael's first CD entitled 'Columbus Never Came' which can also be purchased on CD Baby.
