How Great Thou Art
Karen Deaguero was born in Fairview, New Mexico and grew up in Chimayo with six brothers along with her Mother and Father. She learned to play the guitar when she was in 3rd grade from her father Harby who played excellent guitar. Karen recorded her first CD entitled, "Esta Vida" in 2006. The CD includes five original songs and five cover songs. Two of the cover songs are mariachi and were recorded with Mariachi Tenampa from Albuquerque. The title song, "Esta Vida" was written in memory of four brothers that have passed away. It won, "Best Traditional Hispanic Composition" at the New Mexico Music Awards in 2007 and "Gospel Song of The Year" at the New Mexico Hispano Music Awards in 2010 . In 2007 Karen recorded her second CD entitled, "Vamonos" which includes 3 original songs and seven traditional Hispanic cover songs and in 2008 was nominated once again at the New Mexico Hispano Music Awards in 3 categories including, Songwriter of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year. Karen's third CD entitled, "How Great Thou Art" is a Christian-Gospel CD and includes English, Spanish and Bilingual Inspirational songs. It released July of 2008. The song "Maestro" from the CD won "Gospel Song of The Year" at New Mexico Hispano Music Awards in 2009. Today, Karen performs for various functions and continues to write songs from her personal experiences in her life and currently lives in Santa Fe, NM.
