She dives into moods coming from the '70's and makes you think of Pharoah Sanders, Leon Thomas, Woody Shaw, and more globally, music that prolongs the legacy of Coltrane in his spiritual dimensions and in his lively lyricism."... As for Roberts, she makes you think of McCoy Tyner and also of all the modern pianists that mix swing and a harmonic-rhythmic approach (Horace Tapscott, John Hicks, Larry Willis.) (Jazz Hot, Paris, April, 2003. John Szlamowicz.) "Roberts clean, angular phrasing, full of stabbing chords...The front horn line digs into the charts, skating over the energetic grooves with tight voicings that open up into stirring solos." (Cadence Magazine, New York, Nov., 2003. Michael Rosenstein.) « Pianist-composer Katy Roberts imposes her joyous vision of a music that is very real. Jazz like we love it, swinging elegantly, moving the soul....we go back to the sacred references of the Great Black Music. » (Jazz Magazine, Paris, April, 2003. Sophie Chambon.) "Katy...I wish to thank you for the wonderful album THE VIBE, released this year...I have aired music from the recording on my radio show at Community Radio WERU FM in Blue Hill, Maine...it will be included on my Best of 2003 Jazz Albums to be aired in February." (Byron F. Greatorex) "Katy Roberts' new release was a joy to listen to as it stood out majestically...power energy and beauty...there is no shortage of swing here!" Eric Jackson, WGBH radio, Boston.
