Birth of a Legend
It was just three years ago when a young King Rod made his return to Tallahassee and he has been blazing mics ever since. Born in Tallahassee in 1990, Rodney Vickers has split his time between Havana (FL), Tallahassee (FL) and Miami (FL). Along his path he developed his talents as a story teller and as an entertainer. By the age of 9 he began rapping and performing in talent shows and at family get-togethers. In 2005, King Rod linked up with fellow underground rapper Yt, who introduced him to producer and Spyder Media, Inc. CEO, Michael Fahey a.k.a. Faba. Around the same time, he linked up with producer, Jor'el Jebre, the leader of the Ek'Ziles. King Rod began crafting songs with both producers and appeared on several mixtapes over the next two years. He did numerous shows and contests throughout the area building his legend. He won several freestyle competitions including both the 2005 and 2006 Leon Freestyle Competition before crowds of over 1500. In 2006 he won the Perry's Teen Apollo Contest, with his Exiles produced 'Holton St. Hop'. The song caught the attention of local radio DJ, Thrill Da Playa, who gave King Rod a set in the 2006 SummerFest concert headlined by T-Pain (Konvict), Acafool, Bohagen (BME), and Trae (Rap-A-Lot). King Rod was also part of a groundbreaking performance at the 2005 annual Wildwood Stock concert as he did the first ever rap set as a guest of fellow rap group Nu Davelopment. King Rod is currently promoting his debut independent release, 'The Birth Of A Legend' (Spyder Media, Inc.). The highly anticipated debut has already garnered lavish praise from fellow producers and rappers, as well as fans from Los Angeles to Miami to South Africa to the United Kingdom. The album will be available at several local and regional stores as well as online through CDbaby.com and by download on iTunes. To date King Rod has opened for T-Pain, Bohagen, Buck 65, Nappy Roots, Acafool, Trae, and Cherly Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm). All looks bright for King Rod's future, as it is only a matter of time before the rest of the music world hails it's King.
