Kitt Moran Sings the Mike Moran Songbook
Kitt and Mike Moran have been working together since the 1970's, first based in the New York City area, then Atlantic City and currently, Florida's West coast. Kitt has recorded with Rosemary Clooney, John Pizzarelli, Merv Griffin, Jack Sheldon, Frankie Randall, and Teo Macero. In Atlantic City, Burt Bacharach sat in and accompanied her on piano. Michel Legrand did the same thing but also sang backup. Vic Damone asked Kitt to be a part of his performance at Resorts International. Kitt and Mike spent several years performing at Gregory's on 63rd and First Avenue in New York, a jazz landmark. Each of Kitt's CD's included a couple of original songs by her husband, Mike. Mike has written for Teo Macero, Don Sebesky, among others, both as a lyricist and as a composer. This CD is a 'best of ' collection, remastered and thoughtfully assembled. Kitt sings on all of these except 'I'll Remember Erroll' which was a single take from the end of a recording session at Jim Czak's Nola Recording Studio in New York. The piece is a tribute to Erroll Garner, and the piano at Nola used to be Erroll's own Steinway. Jay Leonhart's bass used to belong to George Duvivier, and Grady Tate just plays great drums. You'll find this CD emotionally engaging and hypnotic, even though these are rarely heard songs. Techically they range from big budget studio recordings to project studio demos that just have their own shine, all in Stereophonic Sound! Enjoy.
