Body of Lies
Layla Kaylif is a British singer songwriter. She is best known for her song Shakespeare in Love. Her new single is Body of Lies, inspired by the David Ignatius novel, and the title of her new album. The album is a concept piece, which explores the subject matter loosely addressed in the novel, but from a more philosophical perspective. Therefore, songs like Jerusalem are a lament of the current politics of the land, viewed as a result of human folly. The Black Madonna and The Night Journey hint at the absence of the feminine traits of mercy and wisdom in the world, caused by the destruction of the feminine divine in religion. You Live Once and then You Die, whilst dark, is a plea to live now and not for the after life- since that seems to cause such destructive behaviour. Conflict Junkie touches on issues of masochism and power, and Makes No Sense, whilst seemingly a love song, is actually the yearning for union with the Divine.
