Leper's Pen releases a collection of previously unreleased songs from past recording sesions combined with a few new tunes. Singer/songwriter Bill 'The Thrill' Galetka once again reaches into his lyrical book of magic and comes up with some great songs. Listen as his wonderful melodies dance along to such Leper's Pen classics as 'Looking Back,' 'Rust,' and 'Kiss Of The Moon.' Also released for the first time is Bill's tribute to the victims of 9/11, 'We Will Stand.' Notes from the artist: Where the songs came from..... 'LOOKING BACK': Digging through the old tapes, I came across an upbeat drum track with acoustic guitar on it. It must have been a musical idea that got lost along the way. While putting this project together I thought this would be an excellent chance to inject some new grooves. Since this project is a collection of odds and ends that were sometimes recorded in-between actual album sessions, it seemed that I was once again right inside one of those moments. The lyrics were inspired by looking back through the years with this group of songs. And then I just ran with the ball from there. It's a fun rocker that was a natural choice to start things off. ''CROSS THE CORNER': One of two songs (the other was Meet Me At The Border) written between the Murky Depths sessions and Songs From The Leper's Pen. I wrote these two songs for a friend as a personal and special gift. 'FRAGILE GIRL': This song was written shortly after the first time I saw Tori Amos perform in 1994. I sent a copy to her fanclub in an attempt to get it to her but never heard a response. It was a sort of thank you for her having the courage to give her music to the world after all she has been through. Or maybe it was a crush. I took this opportunity to re-mix the song as the original has only 3 acoustic guitars and vocals. 'BIG SMILEY FACE': This song was left off of the Songs From The Leper's Pen project partially because of the sheer amount of songs I had at the time and also because it was another song in the people's key of G. It came from the thought of how a simple smile from a girl can turn your day around. Musically it is inspired by Morrissey. 'WALKING IN A CIRCLE': This song was left off of the Kaleidoscope CD because I felt it didn't fit the overall theme of that project and because I wanted to keep the total time of the CD to around 50 minutes. The song came to me at a time when life was bogged down into such a boring routine. I am sure it is something we all feel from time to time. 'RUST': This song was written during the final stages of recording the Kaleidoscope CD. The song is about how sometimes it seems our friends forget about or abandon us. Many times things are not as they seem. I tried to capture that moment of sadness. 'JILA': This song is a sweet little love song that came to me while working on this project. I wrote this song for my girlfriend Jill, whose name in Spanish is 'Jila' (pronounced Hee-La). 'ONE OF THOSE DAYS': This is another song that was written during the recording of the Kaleidoscope CD. The song is the story of a guy whose day goes wrong from the moment he wakes. It also seems that everything that can go wrong, does.Ever have one of those days? 'KISS OF THE MOON': This song was the only song recorded in the summer of 1999. I had intended to begin work on a new CD while my girlfriend was on vacation with her family down in Honduras. But as fate would have it, the pull of summertime was too much to be denied. I don't think I'll ever attempt to record in the summer again as those summer days grow more precious every year. I had this song title written down for quite awhile and wanted to experiment with a different kind of drum sound. Every now and then I find myself writing about young love in a sexy and playful manner. 'HEAL': This song was left off of the Another Perfect Day project because I didn't need another slow song and also because of time restraints. I wrote the song shortly after re-entering the dating scene. My divorce left me feeling undesirable. By taking the first step and starting to date again, I allowed myself to start a new stage of healing. 'WHAT DOES THE MUSIC DO FOR YOU?': Back in 1995 I was looking to update some of my recording equiptment. I came across a digital reverb unit that was for sale by my high school music teacher. She agreed to sell it to me at a discounted price if I would write a song for her. Always being up for a challenge, I decided to write a song that would ask her what role music plays in her life, outside of it being her job to teach it. 'HELLO, MARILYN': This song was left off of the Another Perfect Day project. Again, I had already more than enough slow songs. I have a friend who has always been a huge Marilyn Monroe fan. This song came from a dream I had about my friend having a drunken conversation with Marilyn and asking questions about how to deal with people not accepting you for who you are. It seemed like an odd thing to ask Marilyn, but I think a lot of times we think that celebrities have it all together and can do no wrong. 'GIVE ME SPACE': This song was written in 1994 at the start of what would become the Songs From The Leper's Pen sessions. I actually thought it to be too silly for anyone to like it. I guess it kind of has to do with escapism and getting a little room to relax. 'WE WILL STAND': I think we all were affected by the events of September 11th, 2001. I am sure that every songwriter felt compelled to put down a few thoughts about those events. It would take a month for the shock of it all to wear off a bit before I felt the need to put something down onto paper. I think it woke up a sense of patriotism that had been hibernating for a long time. It was a truly tragic loss of life that day. This song is my tribute to those lost but not forgotten. This project came about after remodeling my studio and coming across a batch of songs that were never released. Over the years, songs that were left off previous recordings, or that were recorded in-between actual sessions, or that were recorded for special occasions, have been set aside. Now they have found a home with the first of a very special limited edition series. Some of the songs were found in a partially done state and were finished in the studio 2002. These 'touch up' sessions also inspired a couple newly recorded songs that were added to this special project. This CD includes printed lyrics and interior photos as well as explanations of where the songs came from. A true treasure to the Leper's Pen collection!!
