Les Deux Amis Guitar Duo was formed by guitarists Joseph Hoey and Brian Morris at Florida State University in 1985. That year the duo won third prize in the Guitar Foundation of America's International Guitar Duo Competition from among a field of 30 duos from around the world. The two guitarists were to continue performing together as members of the Visiting Artists Program in North Carolina from 1985-1989 and afterwards until 1992. During this time Les Deux Amis Guitar Duo was featured on many concert series in the US and premiered a number of new works written for guitar duo. After hearing this recording of his composition, Quatre Mouvements, Op. 53, Francis Kleyjans wrote and dedicated a new composition to these two guitarists. This recording was made at the Bank of the Arts in New Bern, North Carolina on May 30-31, 1988. Brian Morris remembers, "the first night we tried recording there was too much traffic noise. So the second night we started recording around midnight and went well into the morning hours."
