Product Notes

1. Desert Sky 4.22 (Avril/Field/Urban) After talking about stardom to my boyfriend John at the time, he said "the kooris will tell you that the only real stars are up in the desert sky". I wrote this song with songwriter Heather Field & expat Keith Urban. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features Tom E. Lewis on didgeridoo, Ross Hannaford on electric guitar, Garrett Costigan on pedal steel, Gerry Hale on acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on Bass & Gary Young on drums. 2. Cowgirls' Heart 3.20 (Beccy Hobbs) A great crowd pleaser written by the Oklahoma girl Beccy Hobbs. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features Garrett Costigan on Pedal Steel, Sam Lemann on electric guitar, Gerry Hale on fiddle & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 3. I Want You Back 3.22 (Paul Gadsby) A simple, plaintive song written by Melbourne musician Paul Gadsby. Features Sam Lemann on acoustic guitar, Garry Hale on dobro, bass auto harp & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 4. I'm a Woman. 4.04 (Leiber/Stoller) Both myself & backing vocalist Jessica Bateman, have been performing this song for years. Written by the legendary song writing team of Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, it has also been recorded by many artists including Maria Muldaur. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features John Dallimore on electric guitar, Randy Bulpin on slide guitar, Sam Lemann on electric guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 5. The Station 3.01 (Brent Parlane) A great song written by another Melbourne musician. Features Sam Lemann on electric guitar, Gerry Hale on 12 string guitar, mandolin & dobro, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 6. Prowling Around 2.16 (Mary Anne Stringer). Whilst looking for orginal songs, I came across this one at a song-writers' night in Melbourne. I have tried to locate the writer for APRA purposes but with no luck. A real swamp feel. Features Anthony Harkin on harmonica, Randy Bulpin on slide guitar, Wayne Burt on electric guitar, Gerry Hale on acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 7. Looking Everywhere 2.35 (Wayne Burt) A sweet country song featuring backing vocals of Jessica Bateman & Gerry Hale. Features the writer Wayne Burt on guitar, Gerry Hale on acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 8. Don't Come the Cowboy 3.21 (Kirsty MacColl) Written by the late English singer Kirsty MacColl, daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl. She recorded "Fairytale of New York with the Pogues but tragically died in a controversial boating accident in 2000. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. I have also recorded another song of hers "There's a Guy Works Down the Chipshop" on my 3rd CD "Cowboy in my Bed". Features Chris Wilson on accordion, Gerry Hale on fiddles, dobro, mandolin & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 9. Cowboys' Sweetheart 2.02 (Patsy Montana) Patsy Montana sang and yodeled her way into the hearts of radio listeners in Depression-era America. Her 1935 single, 'I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweet- heart,' was the first recording by a female country artist to sell a million copies. Her success encouraged the traditionally male-oriented country music business to welcome and respect the scores of female performers that followed. Features Sam Lemann on electric & acoustic guitars, Gerry Hale on Mandolin, fiddle & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 10. Lay Your Burdens Down 2.40 (Avril/Field/Urban) I plaintive slow waltz based on a past relationship. I made a bet that his new squeeze would be pregnant before the year was out - I was right. He called to tell me. Written with Heather Field & expat Keith Urban. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features Chris Wilson on keyboards, Gerry Hale on fiddle, auto Harp & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on Bass & Gary Young on drums. 11. Firewoman 2.51 (Avril/Field/Gillard) I wrote this song in just a few minutes while sitting in a pub in Sydney with a sympathetic girl friend Kushla George. I was one angry woman after being messed around by the man at the time who owned an old Pontiac. Written with Heather Field & Sydney bassman James Gillard. This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features Randy Bulpin on slide guitar, Chris Wilson on Hammond organ, Gerry Hale on dobro, & acoustic guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 12. It's Raining 3.11 (Naomi Neville / Allen Toussaint) Also recorded by: Irma Thomas, Lou Ann Barton; The Boogie Kings; Dee Clark; The Detroit Cobras; Freddy Fender; Eleni Mandell; Shakin' Stevens; Jennifer Warnes; Marva Wright. A fabulous blues song that I have loved singing since the days when I was in Chris Stockleys' band The Blue Healers. I first heard Lou Ann Barton singing it. Features Garrett Costigan on pedal steel, Chris Wilson on piano, Wayne Burt on electric guitar, Sam Lemann on electric guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on drums. 13. I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again 2.23 (A Troxel) A cheeky, acoustic, bluegrass song recorded by the Maddox Bros & Rose in 1950. Features Anthony Harkin on harmonica, Geoff Le Blanc on accordion, Sam Lemann on acoustic guitar, Gerry Hale on Mandolin, fiddle, bass & banjo & Gary Young on percussion. 14. Superwoman 2.30 ( Avril/Field/Gillard) This song is based on the fact that women have to be such multi-taskers - not like women in the 1950s. Written with Heather Field & Sydney bassman James Gillard (who is responsible for the difficult riff!). This song is also on my 2nd CD Leslie Avril 'Live'. Features Chris Wilson on piano, Paul Gadsby on Rhythm guitar, Sam Lemann On lead guitar, Wayne Duncan on bass & Gary Young on Drums & backing vocals. 15. Champagne & Desolation 3.41 ( Avril/Field) I had this piano-bar blues floating around for a few years & Heather helped me Polish it up to recording standard. A personal song about how lonely you can be - even in a crowd. Features just myself on piano & Anthony Harkin on harmonica.
