This is a CD full of sparkling performances of Mozart, Bluegrass, Jazz by Grammy- Award winner Howard Levy on piano and harmonica and Chicago Symphony violinist Fox Fehling. The duo gives extremely simpatico renditions of movements from three different Mozart Violin and Piano Sonatas and an original Habañera by Levy. Then Fox blazes through 2 short virtuosic solo violin caprices composed for her by Howard, and charges through a Bluegrass fiddle tune, "The Cottonpatch Rag", accompanied by bass, guitar, and Howard on harmonica and mandolin. Next comes a beautiful Jazz ballad "My One and Only Love", on which Howard plays harmonica and piano simultaneously- it sounds like two players. Fox joins in with some lovely lyrical passages. The duo finishes with a bang playing another Levy original, "Cappuccino", an uptempo Brazilian choro, appropriately named, because Fox and Howard met at a café drinking cappuccinos. (The cover photo is from that café.) This CD is a musical portrait of two musicians (who are a couple), playing music they love. The wide variety reflects their diverse passions. There is no pigeonholing these artists- they play all of these styles with absolute conviction, taking you on a compelling, surprising, and heartfelt musical journey that flows from beginning to end.
