This Is the Beginning of My Golden Age
Light FM is a rare hybrid: plucky indie pop with glaring Polish. The songs are a deluge of structured sound. Within each explosion, there is resolve. With each constructed tension, there exists unmistakable lightness of being, as melody and hook prevail through pulsated keyboards and samples, washes of guitar distortion and mesmerizing syncopation of rhythm and bass. Josiah Mazzaschi's glassy vocals are golden tincture to complete their soundscape. Light FM evolved from Mazzaschi's home recorded sketches with stick-in-yr-head choruses to sweepingly complete pieces of lushness and scope with the finalization of a group: keyboardist Chris Frantisak (Urge Overkill, Bonmots), marathon drummer Mark Ruggiero (Tom Daily and the Volunteers, The Littleman Complex, The Men's Group, The Fruitbats), and bassist Brian Barbier (The Men's Group). Light FM's debut CD, This is The Beginning of My Golden Age was recorded over the past three years at Western Sound Labs with Ken Sluiter (Wilco, Jesus Lizard, OKGO) and one track produced by Mike Zirkel (Promise Ring, London Suede) at the infamous Smart Studios. Their recording process is aided by Josiah's previous studio experience working with producers such as Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan), Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Veruca Salt, Placebo), Keith Cleversley (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Spiritualized), and David Trumfio (Wilco, Cibo Matto, Hole). Light FM continues to grow a strong local following playing sold-out shows for opening acts such as: Verbena, Brendan Benson, The Lilys, Longwave, Spoon, Everclear, The Weakerthans, Trackstar, and countless others. Praise for Light FM: "This'll hold up as one of the best pop records to come out of Chicago this year" - Chicago Reader "A blend of Tommy Keene style melodies and Cars keyboards, this is the best local release in years, and one of the year's best anywhere." - Time-Out "Mazzaschi has long been a talent worth watching - a sharp songwriter with memorable melodies and a distinctive guitarist â€' Chicago Sun Times.
