Product Notes

This conceptual album takes listeners on a journey through life, love, weather and news; all while cruising down an open road with the windows down, tunes cranked and heart shamelessly singing along. Teaming up with Grammy-winning producer John Sorenson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, Rolling Stones) the band entered into the creative atmosphere of The Banff Centre in August of 2003 to record the album. With positivity, humor and grace being the underlying themes, RADIO takes listeners on a no-holds-barred broadcast of life. Lori's reflective and inspirational collection of songs, including 'Brand New Day,' 'Farmer,' 'Let it Go,' and 'Here She Comes' are featured on her new CD. Some very accomplished performers participated in the making of RADIO, including Lin Elder ( back-ups for Jann Arden,) who demonstrates her soulful range on the CD. RADIO also features Amos Garrett on electric guitar, who shows his stuff on 'Off That Horse.' Mike Little from the Mocking Shadows also contributed his talents to the album. The music on the CD - featuring musicians Yves Cote on guitar, Murf Martin on bass and Mark Dalton on drums - is almost as diverse as the variety of stations on a radio. Taking influences from jazz, rock, country, folk and blues, Reid infuses her comforting, yet powerful voice into the mix. The concoction evokes visions of rockers such as Sheryl Crow or Janis Joplin, and the well-crafted, catchy melodies have broad listening appeal. 'Our music is pretty open,' says Reid. 'We don't fall into any particular genre, we're more of a crossover between pop, roots and good ol' rock and roll. Our attitude is very comfortable, casual and approachable.' Raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Reid is no stranger to the music industry. Even before conquering the fine art of walking, Reid was climbing up a radio cabinet in her home to get a better listen to the radio. She composed her first song at 8 and two years later was broadcasting live from a toy store in a remote broadcast, encouraging fellow youngsters to come down and play. She has rarely been away from the medium since. For several years, Lori worked in broadcasting for radio stations throughout Alberta - both on the air and behind the scenes. It was in 1991 that she decided it would be better to hit the record button instead of play. She made her artistic debut at the Banff Centre with a show entitled 'New Mother Nature.' For the concert, Lori conceptualized original music in which she packaged together characters she met in the Bow Valley with the natural beauty of her home in the Rocky Mountains. The show received fantastic reviews and demonstrated that Lori's original music had an eager audience. From that point forward, Lori focused on enhancing her repertoire of songs and getting her music 'out there.' Both as a solo artist, and together with her band, she has accumulated over 10 years of experience in the music industry. Lori has joined forces with Lin Elder and Jenny Allen to form a wonderful new collective called the Fates. They released their debut album in January of 2004. The album made the #39 spot on the CKUA Radio Networks top 100 of 2004, and thier second single, 'Heal Me', hit #53 on the top 100 singles of 2005 at Mountain FM in Banff/Canmore. Now, watch for Lori as she once again join's her sisters, the fates, on tour through-out Western Canada. The New live recording 'SLAM! - Volume 1' will be available in March 2006! Please, write your review of 'Radio' For more information contact lori@thefates. Ca.
