Look Mom No Hands
This acoustic project is the brainchild of cousins Magen White and Barry Thornburg..well..not exactly 'brain child' but 'child' nonetheless. The two were in various pop-punk bands together and always dreamed of going on tour with their music. Because they had no money for a trailer to haul drums and half-stacks, and the only reliable vehicle available was Magen's mom's Cavalier, they decided to write some acoustic songs, record them, and promote the album on the road. For the next month, they locked themselves in Magen's garage and recorded The Asteroid Years EP on Magen's computer. They drew up the cover and took it to Copy Max (those people were so patient with us...), and still had time to make it to the family Christmas Eve party. Soon after, they went on a Southwest tour from southern New Mexico to Los Angeles and back. They recorded a full-length album a few months later, went on another tour, and gained a fanbase in their hometown of Albuquerque, NM. Did I mention they had a blast doing it? Well, now Barry is in South Africa serving as a missionary and Magen is very sad and wishes that he would come back and play bass for her, (and watch Seinfeld reruns with her..that would be nice too). But with or without Barry, Magen is determined to fulfill her dream. She went on another tour in November venturing all the way to the Pacific Northwest, and is currently recording a new EP. And did I mention she is having a blast doing it?
