Product Notes

This is a compilation of work done in 2008 by saxophonist/composer, Makoto Sawai, who is a widely active in Jazz and the club scene mainly in Kansai, Japan. This work starts softly with a piece rich in a bossa flavour. The natural tone of the saxophone melts together with the floating ambient electric sounds, making you feel like you are listening to the music for a finely crafted movie. The final ballad, indeed has the charm to match the last scene of a movie.I recommend this CD to those who love the ambient feeling of ECM style music. This music has been distributed to Norway and Germany receiving favourable praise there. Welcome to the natural, sweet artistic world of saxophonist/composer Makoto Sawai, whose music moves the heart.Born in 1961, and starting composition in his teens, especially for his work in writing ballads, Makoto Sawai is a saxophonist/composer who has studied the saxophone under Hidefumi Toki, and currently resides in Kobe City, Japan. Aside from his ow n quartette, based mainly in Kobe, he has been widely active in the club scene in a Latin unit, and an ambient rock unit, among others, and his latest compilation in 2008, starts with a piece that has a very comfortable Bossa feeling, called "The Winds of Nombre Noir,' made in collaboration with pianist Keiko Tanaka, and guitarist Ryuichi Fujiyama. All seven numbers are handmade original pieces of Makoto Sawai, and some comments have likened them to the gentleness of an Indian Ink Painting, and this sweetly gentle atmosphere permeates the whole work. As is shown by the album title "Paysage,' the last ballad "So Long." wonderfully brings together the 7 painting scenes of this work, and is an album which gently moves the heart. Review by Masayuki Kase of Walker's Orijinal Member sax Makoto Sawai pf Sachiko Ikuta bs Yasuhiro Tokiyasu dr Yuzuru Asada.
