Marco Cortes was born in Santiago de Chile. He attended 'The University of Chile', located in Valparaiso, Chile. There he studied Music and became a Music Teacher. Even though he worked as a teacher, he was also a singer and composer 'part time'. He then started going on television shows as a singer, and even competed three times in the 'Folk Music Festival' of Olmue. He won twice out of the three times, first the second place, then he won the first. A few years later he competed in the 'International Music Festival of Viña del Mar'. He now lives in Washington State, U.S.A, and he teaches Spanish at Berlitz Language Center as well as Music. He's lived there since the year 2000, hoping to take his music even further. Right now here in Seattle (WA) he's worked with Normando Brenis, a peruvian musician, and his musical group 'Los del Rio', with whom he plays in this CD. Washington is a place of great diversity, and it has given him many chances to work with musicians of many different backgrounds and cultures, like from Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua, and of course, from the U.S. Speaking Spanish has given him the chance to work with bilingual children and their families in a program called 'Cantando y Jugando' ('Singing and Playing with Latin American Music'), promoted by various libraries in the Seattle Area. In this CD you can find a medley of songs from this program, designed for children and adults to learn and practice their Spanish.
