Mark Kaye notes 'After spending a few years in Hawaii, my family moved to the San Francisco Mission District. The combination of eclectic musical styles there had a big influence and I developed a deep love of funk, R&B, and salsa. For me, the groove is the most important part of the production; because if the track don't groove you, it won't move you to hear the song.' All songs were written and performed by Kaye, with some contributed guitar parts by Jeff Weinstein and acclaimed San Francisco indie producer Jerry Stucker. Kaye notes that he's 'not a tech freak' and prefers 'a simple, straight-forward sound, so the only thing sequenced on this CD is the drums. There's plenty of guitar, grand piano, funky bass lines, Latin percussion, even some organ, horns and string sounds to help the groove get along. It's all about the groove and love, life's two finest things.
