Hymn Favorites 1
Martin was born and raised in Memphis, TN. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Memphis and Master of Arts (conducting emphasis) at Middle Tennessee State University. He has a Master's Level Certification in Orff Schulwerk and has studied orchestration with renowned arranger/orchestrator Lari Goss. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Worship Studies at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Martin has had extensive experience in Christian music as a performing artist and studio musician. He played for Michael English and the Singing Americans during the early 80's and was featured on their 'Live and Alive' album, which introduced the gospel classic, 'I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy.' From 1990 - 1993 he played keyboards for the Nelons of Atlanta, GA. During his tenure in gospel music, he was the recipient of numerous nominations for Favorite Musician. During his years on the road, he also found time to work as a sessions musician in Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, and Cincinnati. In 1994, Martin switched careers and worked as a music specialist in the Murfreesboro, TN city school system. It was there that he began serving part-time in a local church, directing the children's music program and playing keyboard. In 1996, he entered full-time worship ministry and now serves as the Minister of Worship and the Arts at the 7000-member Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. Due to popular demand, Martin is making a 'comeback' of sorts as a performing artist. Martin recently appeared as a guest accompanist for the Huntsville Community Chorus Choral Festival under the baton of Dr. Anton Armstrong. He is playing a limited number of events and has now released his very first CD, Hymn Favorites Volume 1. His piano style has been compared to the great Jackie Marshall and to gospel music legend Lari Goss.
