Mary Buirgy has entered the jazz scene with an incredibly smooth and mellow voice. It is apparent from the first note that her soul's passion has found a home. Listening to Mary you will hear an undercurrent of blues, which she says is embedded in her style. This is due to the artists that have influenced her singing most: Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, B. B. King, and Sarah Vaughn. Other influences include Kate Wolf, James Taylor, Patsy Cline, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. This diversity of artists and styles reflect her broad musical tastes. Mary's goal is to move beyond the strict notion of musical genre and interpret and relive each song through the kind of openness and freedom of approach found in jazz; Mary feels that in singing jazz, "the creative possibilities are endless." She credits most of her development as a jazz vocalist to the musicians she has had the privilege of playing with including Mark Sloniker, Jason Hollar, Andrew Vogt and Mark Raynes who are all featured on her first CD, Beautiful Love.
