Make a Move
I have sung a variety of music from Rock to Country, but have never been able to forsake my love for good solid Jazz/Pop music. As a kid I would enjoy singing to Elvis and the Beatles, and have always fallen for beautiful ballads. I remember when I was 12 my favorite songs were "Breaking up is hard to do" by Neil Sedaka and "I go Crazy" by Paul Davis. Throughout my high school days and into my twenties I was in and out of rock bands, but I was still wearing out all the Gino Vannelli, and Al Jarreau albums. I remember thinking what beautiful voices they have and how much I want to be doing what they were doing. I also grew up listening to my dad's jazz music from Parker to Stitt. I decided to make my sound using my love of jazz vocals combined them with a good pop flavor. Some could call me "a hopeless romantic" because I enjoy talking about, thinking about, and for sure singing about romance. I deliver a good clean raw sound with a wide variety of vocal ranges, always settling down with a smooth breathy tone. "Make a Move" is a song and the cover title of this CD about possibilities in love and romance. This song is the typical scenario of a guy that sees a girl that is so incredible in every way; but he's too scared to make his move. I always worked just run of the mill jobs to keep myself alive while in pursuit of my dream. Well, time caught up with me, and I returned to school to obtain a degree in physical therapy. Recently, with the unfortunate death of my father, I have been given the opportunity to finance a CD and further pursue my dream. Both my grandfather and father pursued a similar dream, and now I finally have the chance. I wish they where here to share in my success, but I know they are proud. I'm not going out without a fight, so here it is, the first CD of many "Make a move"..... and I'm glad I did. Max W. Shumake.
