Horse We Rode in on & the Lambs We Took with Us
BIO: Medic Medic is a 3-piece rock band from Pittsburgh, PA. Simply guitar, drums, and vocals only - the band has managed to create an explosive wall of sound, sans-bass. 'The Horse We Rode In On & The Lambs We Took With Us' was independently recorded in May 2007, at Studio G Brooklyn with Joel Hamilton. PRESS: 'Sound: Female-fronted garage-rock band that swings from screaming punk to crushing metal. Think PJ Harvey, Melvins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs.... The record came out sounding great and just raw enough.' -Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette '...the band manipulates the shrapnel of grunge, riot-grrl post-punk and disco into a modern paradigm of driving, metallic pop music that's as deafening as it is danceable. The album's opening track, 'Mourning Star,' gets right to the point of what vocalist and lyricist Nicole Ranalli's voice can do. Elements of PJ Harvey-like breathiness combined with Corinne Tucker-esque falsetto shrieks take the lead over an adrenaline-inducing rhythm section comprised of guitar and drums. Guitarist Phil Blythe-Supan brings forth a Melvins-by-way-of-Hum style of infectious guitar sludge, also lending his heroic baritone on 'Bend,' 'Make Me Better' and 'Birthday March.' Last but not least, the barely legal, spider-armed drummer Jesse Levi thumps away flawlessly, not missing a beat... The 10 songs on The Horse meld without sacrificing any momentum as each track oozes out angst-filled observations on the domino effect of our self-destructive culture.' -Danny Fenner, Pittsburgh City Paper "The Horse We Rode in on" is the heaviest, most jarring local release this side of now-defunct the Great Ants' "For Simply". As mentioned, the band's grunge rock fury is in full effect as always, and that's especially certain on "Wait It Out," on which Ranalli sings, "Your heart is pumping, but it's not for me," and another Ephemeris keeper "Off the Wagon," which contains a guitar-drum breakdown that could prove riot-inducing.' -Brian Krasman, The Daily News McKeesport.
