Boxset-A Decade of Song
NEW SHOES 'A Poetic flair reminiscent of Shawn Colvin and the Indigo Girls. Seek this one out.' -- Billboard Magazine ONION DREAM 'As smooth and refreshing as the finest whiskey money can buy.' -- Global Muse LIVE AT YOUR HOUSE 'You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll beg for more!' -- The News and Observer Meghan Cary's music has drawn comparisons to Shawn Colvin, Stevie Nicks, Blind Faith and even Bruce Springsteen. An award-winning songwriter and a natural on stage, Cary was named Billboard Magazine's Critic's Choice for Best Newcomer when she hit the music scene. And now the entire musical journey is available on 'boxset - a Decade of Song'. Meghan Cary began writing and performing music after the unexpected death of her fiance, Matthew Black. Cary picked up Black's guitar, taught herself to play, and began writing her passion into music, ultimately recording her award-winning debut CD, New Shoes. 'I never meant to make a CD. I just had these songs I wanted to share with friends and family who knew Matti. But one thing led to another and I found myself at this beautiful studio with a great producer and a talented engineer and before I knew it my little cassette tape became a fully produced CD.' That CD, New Shoes, garnered rave reviews from Billboard Magazine and a music career was born. Cary followed New Shoes with the more lushly produced, Onion Dream. Combining her simple acoustic tunes and full band rock numbers, Cary's sophomore CD has been described as 'Smooth and Refreshing as the finest whiskey money can buy'. (Global Muse) And finally, in response to repeated requests from her fans, Cary recorded her first live CD. On this newest release, 'Live at Your House', Cary captures the incredible intimacy of her live show by recording it in a fan's living room. This CD serves up the magic that is Cary's live show - and literally leaves her audience howling. Her audience has always been the focus of Cary's music. So we've included here her note to them describing this first decade of song: It struck me as I was working on my new tune 'Building a House' (you'll be hearing it soon) that in May of 2005, I will have been writing, recording and performing my own music for 10 years. I couldn't believe it. To this day I pick up my guitar to write a song and it feels like a brand new experience. Ten years. In that time I've released 4 CD's. So I've decided to put 3 of those, 'New Shoes', 'Onion Dream', and 'Live at Your House', into a box set which I have so aptly titled: 'boxset - A Decade of Music'. My hope is that you'll share 'boxset' with friends and that they'll enjoy hearing all of the songs as well as following the evolution of an artist. At the sales table, 'New Shoes' is 'the sadder one', 'Onion Dream' is 'the rocking one' and 'Live at Your House' is 'the live one' (oh what a saleswoman I am!). But, with a minute to think about it, here's what you get when you purchase 'boxset - A Decade of Music': NEW SHOES (1998) 'New Shoes' will always stand apart because it is the first - first time writing, first time playing, first time recording, first time mixing. It is an 'oops' CD - the baby that wasn't planned but was nonetheless received with open arms. It was the only CD that was created without you, the listener, in mind because I didn't know you when I started on it. 'New Shoes' is a collection of some of the first songs I ever wrote, recorded solely for family and friends of the angel that inspired them. Although it was not my intention to create anything more than a simple recording of a handful of songs I wrote for Matthew, 'New Shoes' found it's way into a real studio, filtered it's way through the creative minds and hearts of incredible musicians, and finally landed in the hands of some of the most beautiful souls I know...you. And therein a music career began. ONION DREAM (2000) 'Onion Dream' arrived 2 years later in all of it's glory. It was the result of time spent with you discovering just how much more there was to write about and learning new ways to express myself with six strings and a melody. And, of course,I had the help of some of the most talented players I've had the honor to know. 'Onion Dream' is the BIG record (so far!). It is the record with production values beyond my wildest dreams. It is the album that challenged me, stretched me in a myriad of different directions and ultimately led me to the commitment cliff: midway through this second record, I dove heart first into the world of music. I'm still swimming! LIVE AT YOUR HOUSE (2004) 'Live at Your House' is the baby of the family. Not even a year old, it has no right being included in a box set yet, but since it captures the most important element of the music from the very beginning, I had to include it. The new live CD features the very best part of my music...YOU. It is a CD of songs that were developed, matured and took flight in your listening. It is a CD you asked me to make for years. It is a CD driven by your exuberant and loving energy in the room. It is the live CD. I feel good about every boxset I sell. Because I feel like it embodies the entire journey; gives all I have to give. And that, to me, is what making music is all about. Thanks for listening. I hope to see you somewhere along the road! Love........Meghan.
