Born and raised in Michigan, Mellow Dee comes from a family of talented singers and songwriters who were inspired by the Motown sound. She has performed since the age of five. Her powerful and sultry voice has been compared to a modern Billie Holiday and Phyllis Hyman, both of whom are musical influences to Mellow Dee. Mellow Dee finds it hard to define her style of music, because she has an array of music she loves including, jazz, rock, country, blues among others.Mellow Dee is not afraid to be honest in her music.One song was an outlet for her frustrations with doctors that told her she had six months to live while fighting cancer.Being homeless at one point in her life, led to 'A Place called home'. Couple that with her colorful personality and she has a style all her own. Singing background vocals for various bands through the years, Mellow Dee has paved her way to a musical career which includes Waybac Records, a label she started in order to make her music her way.
