This Is Tonight
As an artist, Michael Mattingly personifies the true meaning of reinvention. Using his love for all styles of music, mixing the soul of R&B, the passion of Blues, and the melody of Country with the power of Rock and Roll, Michael has managed to create a sound that is uniquely his own. Call it 'Metal Grass', Rock & Soul, or 'Country with a twist', his music defiantly addresses controversial issues on a spiritual level in a way that speaks to the common thread that makes us all human. His appreciation for the art of story telling is clearly evident in his music as well. While penned in general language, his lyrics are written in a style that easily applies to just about anyone's personal situations and life experiences yet one can hear the personal connection he has to each and every story in his songs. Unlike most solo recording artists, Michael is more that just a 'musician'. He writes all his songs, performs all the instrumentation, and sings all the vocals. As if that were not enough, he also produces and engineers his music from his studio in the heart of downtown Phoenix. With a heart of gold and 'do it yourself' sensibility Michael has realized, the key to a 'recording contract' and achieving his goal of sharing his music with the world did not lie in L.A. or in even in Phoenix for that matter. It was inside of him the whole time and all he had to do is dare to dream, believe in himself, his music and his message. Having a father in the United States Armed Services, Michael was born and raised in Germany exposing him to a variety of cultures at an early age. By the age of twelve he was traveling around Europe holding down the rhythm section in a touring country band playing VFW, NCO and Officers clubs on Military bases. Michael was a sophomore in high school when his father retired from the military and moved with his family back to the States. After graduation he decided head to Los Angeles in pursuit of a recording career. On his journey to L.A., Michael found himself in Phoenix, Arizona where fell in love with the desert and chose to make Phoenix his home.
