Michael Mays is a performing tenor who has a great love for God and a sincere dedication to His church. God has gifted Michael not only with vocal talent, but also with the ability to compose his own inspirational music. His lyrics are designed to both uplift and challenge God's people to a close walk with Him, and his music is written in a variety of styles, from traditional and classical sounds to contemporary band pieces. All of his music is either original, or original arrangements of favorite hymns. Michael earned his Master of Church Music degree in vocal performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2004. He currently teaches music at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, where he resides with his wife Joy, and their children: Jacob, Natalie, and Elena. Michael grew up the oldest of five in a Christian family. He accepted Christ at the age of seven, and began singing in churches at the age of eight. Since high school he knew that God's call upon his life was to music ministry. But like so many of us, he thought he knew best how to pursue this calling. After years of struggling to do things his way, in the year 2000 Michael was given what he calls a 'blessing' from God to show him the error of his ways. That April, Michael underwent surgery to repair an aneurysm in his brain. He believes that experience was God's way of getting his attention and telling him to try things His way for a change. As Michael says, 'Well, it worked.' In the years following that life-changing experience, Michael and Joy moved to Fort Worth, Texas, for Michael to attend seminary, and have followed His leading to begin Michael Mays Music Ministries. They have seen His hand of blessing in many ways since that year, and Michael is grateful for the second chance God so graciously granted him.
