Michael Murray has made a name for himself over many years as one of Boston's most gifted songwriters. He got the ball rolling when he entered the Cambridge, MA music scene at the age of 17, playing local rock clubs such as the Middle East. He has self released two E.P.s, and it was the enthusiastic reaction of his friends and fans that encouraged him to continue to play shows and make a record. Style Matters is Michael Murray's first album. Murray has gained the respect of many local musicians, six of which came together to create a record that spans the wide spectrum of his songwriting ability. Style Matters takes us from Gram Parsons-style country to edgy indie rock in the vein of Frank Black. Murray's other influences include Elvis Costello, Neil Young, the Smiths, and the Pogues. Michael Murray is now in his fourth year of a weekly residency at PJ Ryan's in Somerville, MA, and continues to remind us that the true craft of songwriting is alive and well in the Boston music scene.
