Enter the Mystery
Enter the Mystery is Michael Popenhagen's first self-produced album, recorded in his own studio in Southwest Michigan. Having recorded the entire album in his studio rather than live, this album proves to have higher production quality than his previous works and contains much more independent artistic expression. In this project, Michael displays broader lyrical expression in his songs that goes beyond a typical worship project. With ten of the twelve songs being originals written by Michael, listeners will be able to understand and relate to God in new and refreshing ways. He says, "Songwriting is a tool to journal my discoveries of God as I see Him revealed in countless ways. My prayer is that these songs give voice to your heart and help you connect with this awesome, loving God who dwells within us." In the song "Since Jesus Came Into My Life," Michael pays tribute to longtime friend Del Shannon, famous for the hit song "Runaway." This song, written by Del, has never been recorded previous to Enter the Mystery, and Michael is honored to have it included in his new album. The title song, "Enter the Mystery," was taken from Psalm 40:3 (MSG) - "More and more people are seeing this: they enter the mystery, abandoning themselves to God." It speaks of seeing an invisible God through all the visible things around us. This concept is further elaborated in "I'm Amazed," co-written with worship leader Dan Klotz. "All Out" is a song expressing the magnitude of Jesus' sacrifice for us, and was co-written with Tim Picking (Thanks Be to God, Hosanna! Music). Tony Gettig of WaYfm Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI says, "Enter the Mystery raises the bar of excellence for indie worship albums. The songwriting, production and heart of this album reflects Mike's passion for leading people into the presence of God through worship music. The tribute to Del Shannon is icing on the cake! This disc is a must-have for fans of Tomlin and Crowder." Michael is a seasoned songwriter and musician who has shared the stage with Del Shannon, Curt Coffield (Promise Keeper's), Michael Gungor (ATF), Paul Baloche, Michael Card, Sara Groves, Eli and Rita Springer. Michael has two previously released albums, Heart Wide Open, 2002 and Inspired, 2004.
