In Sacred Remembrance
Michael E. Rose-Joani Schena-Biographies for CD Baby My mother said I started singing while just a toddler. Apparently I would stand in my crib and mimic what I heard her and others sing in our home, including popular tunes on the radio. I have since spent a lifetime exposed to traditional Christian music and both classic and contemporary popular songs. As a boy I was from time to time asked to sing in church and public settings. In Junior High School I increased my musical talents by playing the cornet in the symphonic band. Later, in High School, I switched to the baritone and participated in the marching band, symphonic band and the pep band. I also continued singing in the school's a cappella choir and performed in several local musicals, including one lead role. My mother insisted that I have vocal training throughout high school and my early years of college. While attending Weber State College I sang with and toured two seasons with a student-performing group-one year to the US West coast and the second to the Northwestern US and British Columbia. Since those early years in college, I have participated in various choirs, quartets, and mixed ensembles and performed as a soloist. I truly appreciate my dear sweet mother and her influence in my life and for my love of music. Her Godlike sacrifices in my behalf are typical of so many mothers I know. Next to the names of deity, no other titles are more sacred to me than that of 'mother' and 'father'. So, in sacred remembrance of my mother, my mother-in-law, my wife and all mothers who walk into the valley of the shadow of death to bear the souls of men, I have included one song on this album for them. I also love the United States of America and have a deep and abiding testimony of it's divine origin and destiny. In spite of differing and disparaging voices, I believe the founding fathers of this great country were inspired by the Almighty Himself and were born to fulfill a role that has changed human history-the formation of a free nation the likes of which has never been equaled. I appreciate the sacrifice of so many that have gone before, including-yes, especially the men and women who fought (fight) and died (die) to preserve our freedoms. Many gave (give) their lives and their tomorrows that you and I might enjoy our lives today. I felt it appropriate to the theme of this album, i.e., 'In Sacred Remembrance', to pay tribute to them with two of my songs. And, as our national anthem states, 'May [this] heaven-rescued land praise the power that has made and preserved us a nation.' Last, but certainly not least, is my love and respect for the Lord Jesus Christ. Words cannot adequately express how my heart swells as I think of His great atoning sacrifice and the love He has so often shown for me. 'In Sacred Remembrance' of 'The Crucified' is the primary focus of this album. Each of the songs I have chosen bears a distinct witness of His divine mission and that He lives today. His grace is truly amazing, particularly in behalf of a wretch so undeserving as me. 'What is man, that thou art mindful of him?' the psalmist asked. Perhaps one of the greatest and one of the most common miracles among us is that our loving Father in Heaven, a god who created worlds without number, is mindful of us, His children, and knows our names and the intimate desires of our hearts. In spite of my imperfections, He continues to bless my life and the lives of those around me. It is my hope and prayer that we might always remember Him and keep His commandments so that His spirit will abide with us. *************** Joani is the eldest of three daughters born to Gino and Kami Schena. She began singing before she could talk. Her mother says she made her music with her baby talk. Some days Kami would tell her it was quiet time in order to get a little break from all the singing. Joani has always been goal oriented and demands perfection in whatever she does. She insists on good grades in school and in addition to singing, enjoys playing the flute, reading and training horses. She has gained respect and honors in high school rodeo events and queen contests throughout the intermountain west. She hopes to earn the title of Miss Rodeo Utah this coming season and go on to compete for Miss Rodeo USA in Las Vegas next year. Joani enjoys a variety of music but prefers Christian and Country Western. She lives on a farm and sees herself as a down-to-earth country girl. Her favorite country performer is Martina McBride because she is a little lady (like Joani) with a big voice and a big heart. Joani, too, is very kind-hearted and tenderly looks out for the less fortunate. She believes she has been blessed with talents that will help make the world a better place in which to live and is eager to do just that. Joani has a strong conviction of the reality and divinity of Jesus Christ and strives to stay close to her Heavenly Father through obedience, service and prayer. Joani has not completely devoted her life to music because she is a very active teenager with a zest for life and enjoys doing so many different things. She feels that when the time is right, she will dedicate whatever it takes to Polish her musical talents. For now, she has asked herself, 'Where would Christ be found? Among the poor, the sick, the common folk and the needy.' This is where Joani feels her voice is best applied and appreciated.
