Moving in Waves
Conceived over a glass of wine in a warm living room on a cold winter night in Chicago, Most Powerful Monks is a musical project three years in the making, culminating in the brand new CD release, Most Powerful Monks: Moving in Waves. "The whole perceivable universe is moving in waves; nothing is static. Music is the same way," says John Storms-Rohm, the singer-songwriter who formed MPM with his longtime collaborator, guitarist Bob Mayo. Joined by an array of talented singers, musicians, and producers, Storms-Rohm and Mayo pulled their musical hearts and production heads together on Moving in Waves. "We wanted to share a part of that feeling you get from pure inspiration. We wanted to make an album that you could get lost in." The songs on Most Powerful Monls: Moving in Waves were composed over the course of three years in Chicago, Vermont, and India. The musical styles move from piano-driven modern rock, through psychadelic pop into inspirational/spiritual/world/folk-rock. One song even experiments with a house/metal hybrid sound that's hardly classifiable according to any already-identified genres. Recorded in basements, living rooms, and a pro Chicago recording studio, Moving in Waves promises the rawness and sincerity of an independent, self-produced project while providing all the enjoyment and satisfaction of listening to a professional-quality CD recording.
